Athabasca University’s Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2018. The successful candidate should have expertise in the area of Equity Studies. This is a full-time position located in Alberta. Athabasca University is a fully-accredited, comprehensive academic and research post-secondary institution with a commitment to facilitating open access to education.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a discipline or interdiscipline within the Humanities and Social Sciences and should demonstrate fluency in issues related to equity. PhDs in related disciplines may be considered. Applications are encouraged from those whose scholarship critically addresses, and with an active scholarly research program in, one or more of the following areas: intersectional feminism, Indigenous studies, critical race theory, and/or disability studies. The candidate will be expected to develop new courses as determined by the requirements of program development and their research interests, as well as coordinate, teach and revise existing graduate courses in the Equity Studies focus area of the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (MA-IS) Program, as well as undergraduate courses in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The ideal candidate will see their research and teaching as facilitating the mission statement of the MA-IS program which “aims for the development of socially engaged public intellectuals.” The ideal candidate should be able to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the areas of study in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies. Evidence of teaching excellence is required, and commitment to exploring and advancing the use of contemporary digital technologies in online teaching and learning is preferred. All faculty members are expected to participate in administrative committees, including those pertaining to centre, faculty, or university-wide endeavors. Additionally, members are expected to participate in service to the greater external community.
