The Political Science Program in Athabasca University’s Centre for Social Sciences in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing October 1, 2018. This is a full-time position located in Alberta. Athabasca University is a fully-accredited, comprehensive academic and research institution with a commitment to facilitating open access to education. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Political Science. A PhD in a related discipline may be considered.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and coordinating courses in introductory political science as well as at least two sub-fields of political science, e.g. Political theory, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Indigenous Peoples and Politics, Canadian (including Indigenous) government, public administration/governance. We are seeking a candidate with an active research program in one or more of the following areas: decolonization, Indigenous studies, critical race theory, human rights, circumpolar studies, community building and/or citizen engagement. An openness to interdisciplinary approaches is critical, as is a willingness to embrace online pedagogy. All faculty members at AU are also expected to participate in administrative committees at the level of the centre, faculty, and/or university, including service external to the university.

The candidate will be expected to coordinate and revise existing courses, and to develop new courses as determined by the needs of the program and their research interests. Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level is required, and familiarity with online systems of course delivery and distance education are preferred. Experience in teaching and advising graduate students would also be considered assets. All educational credentials must be recognized in Canada.
