The Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit was developed to better ensure a robust and sustainable research infrastructure in Alberta, with seven province-wide platforms that provide resources and services, and that promote development of expertise in patient-oriented research. In particular, the Patient Engagement (PE) Platform of the Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit supports meaningful engagement of patients as partners in research projects as articulated in CIHR’s “Strategy for Patient Oriented Research-Patient Engagement Framework”, with the overarching objective of addressing gaps in knowledge and health evidence to enhance the integration of research in health care, thereby improving the health of Canadians.

The Associate Director provides leadership and direction to the overall operation of the Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit, Patient Engagement Platform. He/she works closely in support of and with the Lead of the Platform and with Platform staff to ensure effective day-to-day operation and maintenance of key AbSPORU, provincial, national, and international linkages. Essential functions include: operations and project management, strategic and business planning, researcher mentorship, staff supervision of educational, communication, engagement, and evaluation initiatives and public relations.

This is a term position ending March 31, 2019 with the likelihood of an extension for a minimum of an additonal six months.
