The Director of Prospective Student Relations is responsible for providing effective leadership, direction and management to the Prospective Student Relations Unit, which is tasked with developing and implementing comprehensive marketing and recruitment strategy and services for Athabasca University.  As an entrepreneurial center, the Prospective Student Relations Unit draws on the combined business expertise of its component parts (marketing, recruitment, and post-secondary collaborations and partnerships) to maintain and advance AU's core business, increasing sales of the university's regular program and course offerings, while also developing and promoting collaborative arrangements with other education providers through which to market AU courses, course packages and programs.

The Director is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of domestic and international marketing and recruitment plans and operational initiatives (including online and digital) in support of the Strategic Enrolment Management Plan and established annual enrolment and retention targets and for the development and maintenance of collaborative relationships with other domestic and internal educational institutions in support of AU's recruitment goals.

Qualifications related to the position include:

Education:  An undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g., marketing, administration, public relations, communication).  Graduate degree preferred.  Knowledge of the Alberta and Canadian post-secondary education environment and of distance education, including online delivery methods and educational technology.  Intermediate knowledge of legal agreements, contracts and associated due-diligence processes.

Required Experience:  Ten to fifteen years success as a marketing and recruitment professional, preferably in a university environment, at least five years at a management level.  Strategic planning, operations planning, budgeting, communication, staff supervision and mentoring, contract negotiation, business development, change management, brand management, relationship management, innovation.

Cultural Preparation - A developed understanding of and alignment with university culture and academic values and traditions, and understanding of and sensitivity to the ways in which these and other important values and associations shape institutions of higher learning and form bonds that link individuals and groups to institutions of higher learning.

Professionalism - High ethical standards and an honest, open and consistent approach to working with peers, employees, executive officers and members of the Board of Governors.

Adaptability - Ability to interpret and adapt to new and changing situations and to change direction or modify approaches as required.

Service Orientation - A personal dedication to a service oriented, value-added culture of excellence.

Negotiation - A diplomatic and effective negotiator who works systematically toward fair and equitable solutions.

Computer Skills - Intermediate proficiency with information and communication technology systems including common contact relationship management (CRM) systems.  Comfort with common communication applications.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills and abilities may be considered.
