Individualized Study Tutor

Athabasca University’s Learning Services Tutorial Department is seeking an Individualized Study Tutor for the following course(s):

This position is responsible for providing academic support to students and for marking assignments and exams.

Qualifications and Experience Required:  Master’s Degree required (Ph. D. strongly preferred) in the fields of French and/or Francophone and/or Comparative literature, with a strong mastery of French language, and experience in teaching French language courses (from beginners’ level to advanced level) at the university level. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in French literature from the Moyen Age to the 21st century. Knowledge in French literature from the 19th century; familiarity with Canadian and Quebecois literatures & Women writings would be an asset. Familiarity with French language pedagogy and composition or “dissertation” techniques is desirable. Knowledge in linguistic and basic translation techniques from English to French, as well as a Knowledge of Moodle is also desirable. The candidate must be able to communicate well in French and in English.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic assistance to students, for marking assignments, and for assigning and recording final grades.  Teaching experience at a post-secondary level is required.  Experience in distance learning and familiarity with distance education and digital teaching technologies is preferred.  Experience with adult education and Moodle online course delivery is considered an asset.  All educational credentials must be recognized in Canada.

Along with the relevant academic credentials as mentioned above, this position requires excellent communication, organizational, administration and online/computer skills.  The successful candidate should have demonstrated ability to maintain a high academic standard, maintain accurate student records, and return students’ work promptly.  Candidates must own or have access to a computer and Internet with the capability to communicate with the University and students and the capability to run any applications required to perform tutorial support.  Please see http://itss.athabascau.ca/docs/virtualdesktop.htm for more information on computer and Internet connection requirements.
