As a key member of the Payroll and Benefits team, the Payroll Administrator is responsible for the production of AU payroll in a timely, accurate manner in accordance with AU policies, procedures, collective agreements and adheres to external legislation and regulations including CRA, Service Canada, FOIPP, pension plans, benefit carrier contracts, collective agreements and internal audit requirements.

These positions ensure benefit expenditures are verified and reconciled to the accounts within the University’s financial information system with the authority to action corrections on discrepancies.

These positions are also responsible for the reporting and remitting of payroll deductions relating to registered pension plans, unions dues, and various other non-benefit recoveries.

High School Diploma, with three to five years of payroll experience, preferably in a unionized environment. A relevant two year diploma or a recognized Payroll Administrator Certificate (e.g. Payroll Compliance Practitioner) is preferable.  An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Extensive experience in accounting practices at the intermediate level and knowledge of computerized Human Resource applications or systems, Microsoft Word and Excel applications are essential.

A thorough working knowledge of payroll guidelines and current government legislation as it relates to all AU payroll types is preferred.

A good understanding of AU benefit plans, policies and procedures with exposure to AU collective agreements would be desired.

The incumbent should have excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, good analytical skills with the ability to prioritize work load in order to adhere to inflexible time lines and be able to work independently.
