The Cloud Architect’s role is to provide the technical leadership in defining the infrastructure solutions for the University’s hybrid cloud Information and Communications Technology (ICT) environment, ensuring that they are reliable, secure, scalable, and highly available.

The Cloud Architect will be responsible for providing expertise and leadership regarding cloud architecture for both infrastructure and applications, designing, developing, and communicating processes, tools, and standards with other IT staff, and helping to define and implement DevSecOps methods and practices

Reporting to the Manager, ITS Infrastructure, this position works closely with AU system administrators, database administrators, developers, IT quality assurance analysts, members of the Digital Transformation team, IT Project Managers, the IT Directors and decision makers in other departments, along with external consultants and vendors to create hybrid cloud solutions that support AU’s strategic and operational plans.

Qualifications:

 

Education / Experience

This position requires a graduate of a recognized four-year degree program in computer science, engineering or related field, and a minimum of 5 years of cloud infrastructure experience.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Required Skills

This position requires:

  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail;
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining enterprise scale hybrid cloud infrastructure and systems,
  • Knowledge of and experience with AWS, including EC2, ECS, RDS/Aurora, ELB, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, S3, Route 53 and Lambda
  • In depth knowledge and experience with Linux and Windows environments
  • Experience with current infrastructure automation & continuous integration/deployment, including configuration management and orchestration; e.g. CloudFormation, Jenkins, Ansible
  • Experience in writing automation code in a common scription language such as Python, Perl, Bash, or PowerShell
  • Experience administering web application servers and databases (Apache, Tomcat, Nginx, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with Cloud Security technology and best practices as well as general IT security practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • AWS Solutions Architect Associate level or higher is strongly preferred

Additional Desirable Skills

  • Experience in software development methodologies and programming languages
  • Experience with project management methodologies
  • Experience using IT service management tools such as ServiceNow
