Athabasca University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is currently recruiting for the position of Academic Coordinator, Communication Studies.
Please note this is a temporary part-time (0.2 FTE) position starting ending in August 2023 and the salary for this role will be pro-rated to a 0.2 FTE.
Athabasca University is hiring an academic coordinator with expertise in communication and media studies. The Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the administration and maintenance of eight (8) undergraduate Communication Studies courses:
- CMNS201 Introduction to Mass Media
- CMNS202 Media and Power in Canadian Society
- CMNS301 Communication Theory and Analysis
- CMNS321 Computing in Everyday Life
- CMNS358 Popular Culture and the Media
- CMNS380 Corporate Communication
- CMNS420 Children and Media
- CMNS421 Being Online
Coordinator duties include supervising and monitoring the performance of course tutors (who teach and consult with students and mark their assignments), the handling of student issues as they are brought forward by students, tutors, or the institution (e.g. grade appeals, course credit challenges, academic misconduct cases, transfer credit requests), and service to the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies (e.g. attending meetings held by the Centre and by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences).
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Master's degree in Communication Studies or a related field; a PhD is preferred.
- Experience in distance learning and familiarity with digital teaching technologies are necessary; familiarity with AU course delivery systems and platforms preferred.
