Individualized Study Tutor

Athabasca University’s Centre for Humanities within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking an Individualized Study Tutor for the following courses:

Qualifications and Experience Required:  A minimum of a Master's degree (PhD preferred) in English, and substantial experience teaching composition and writing skills to a diverse student body, especially to students for whom English is a second or other language. Demonstrated knowledge of how to address remedial grammar concerns within the context of a university-level course in writing is essential.

The successful candidate will have subject matter expertise and be responsible for providing academic assistance to students, marking assignments, and assigning and recording final grades. Teaching experience at a post-secondary level is required. Experience in distance learning and familiarity with digital teaching technologies and online course delivery is preferred. Experience with adult education and Moodle online course delivery is also an asset. 

Along with the academic credentials mentioned above, this position requires excellent communication, organization, administration and online/computer skills. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to maintain a high academic standard, solve problems, address students’ work and inquiries promptly and to the University’s Service Standards, and maintain accurate records.
