Reporting to the Deputy Chief Human Resources Officer (DCHRO), the manager leads the HR Client Advisory Services teams in partnering with leaders across the organization in providing expert counsel and support on all human resources aspects.

As a lead to the HR Client Partners, the manager will build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to act as a change agent to positively influence the ongoing evolution of the HR team aligned with organizational priorities, direction, and evolving best practices.

In collaboration with the DCHRO, the manager will be instrumental in setting the framework for HR programs and service delivery and be responsible for the development and continuous improvement of HR programs in support of the HR strategic plan, EMPOWER.

The manager also oversees the areas of recruitment and retention, performance management, organizational development, employee relations, crisis management, employee training and development and leadership training and development.

As a member of the HR leadership team, the manager serves as an ambassador for the HR department and demonstrates and models AU's I-CARE values in all interactions with internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or other related field is required.
  • A minimum of 8 years' related HR consulting and client service experience in a unionized environment is required.
  • Labour relations experience in a unionized environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years managing the HR client services function for a complex and unionized organization.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in leading a team of HR professionals.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with a client focused orientation and demonstrated commitment to service excellence.
  • Strong consulting, problem solving skills with ability to foster a climate of collaboration and relationship building with operational leaders and other partners.
  • Strong and effective leadership skills, with a focus on building a high-performing team, leading a dispersed team and supporting a dispersed workforce.
  • Professional designation - Certified Professional Human Resources (CPHR) or equivalent is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of Human Resource practices including recruitment and retention, performance management, organizational development, employee relations, labour relations, crisis management, employee training and development and leadership training and development.
  • Ability to work effectively, efficiently, and positively under high pressure/stressful situations.
  • Strong knowledge of HRIS and information technology as well as strong functionality of Microsoft Office Suite and database computer programs.
