Please note this is a temporary part-time (0.20 FTE) position starting July 2021 and ending September 2022. 

Athabasca University is hiring a 0.2 FTE Academic Coordinator for a 14-month (until September 2022) term position, with expertise in introductory astronomy and planetary science teaching.

The Academic Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the teaching, administration, and maintenance of the undergraduate courses ASTR 205: Universe-The Ultimate Frontier, ASTR 210: Introduction to Astronomy (capped enrollment of 25 students over this period), ASTR 310: Planetary Science, and ASTR 495, 496: Astronomy and Astrophysics Projects.  The Academic Coordinator will also tutor project students in ASTR 400 level courses.

Coordinator duties include handling of student issues (grade appeals, course challenges, exam reviews, exams delivery when required, transfer credit assessment requests, academic misconduct), assessments. Tutoring duties would be in ASTR 495, 496 to support special project students, with special protocols for exams during COVID.


A PhD degree in Astronomy or a related field is required. Extensive experience in online learning and familiarity with AU specific digital teaching and administration technologies (Moodle, GreyMatter, Grades, Much Learning, Alfresco, Teams) would also be desired assets.
