This position is responsible for the management and coordination of the Laboratory Kit facility within the Science laboratories. The primary responsibilities include quality control, quality assurance and testing, design and development of home laboratory kits in biology, chemistry, physics, and geology courses. Given the diversity of science disciplines, this position requires working on a number of different processes and procedures, some of which are focused according to the specialized techniques and equipment used to build each laboratory kit. In all cases, this work requires attention to detail and compliance with internal and external policies related to safe laboratory practice, and advanced technical knowledge in assembling kits in certain disciplines, such as physics and astronomy. Upon consultation with the course professor, this position requires excellent organizational and coordination skills and often requires multi-tasking to meet deadlines that ensure effective and timely production of kits. The position is responsible for maintenance of databases and access to the University’s systems. The position requires supervision of casual staff when necessary to assist with preparation of materials.


  • The position requires post-secondary studies (Bachelors degree, or equivalent, e.g., diploma with work experience) along with an aptitude in one or more disciplinary areas in science.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required, together with an ability to communicate effectively using different methods (verbal, electronic, written).
  • The ability to use a variety of software and computer applications is necessary.
  • This position requires working independently.
  • WHMIS certification and first aid training are required.
